Beyond the Table: Four Fun and Creative Ideas for Ticking Stripe Paper

The ticking stripe paper runner from the Summer 2024 HOME SUPPLY Co. box was made to bring simple beauty to your summer table — but don’t stop there!

This paper runner is far more versatile than it looks. I recently trimmed a piece to fit into a vintage tray, layered it under glass, and added two vintage seed packets for a summery display. p.s. as of now it's still up for grabs on the website! ;)

Here are a few more creative ways to give your ticking paper a second life:

1. Tray Liner Under Glass

Just like I did! Use it to freshen up an old serving tray. Add postcards, dried flowers, or old seed packets to reflect the season. I snap up old trays when ever I see them at flea markets or vintage shops. Sometimes the glass and backing board are missing_ as it  was with this one. I had the Mr. cut a piece of 1/4" plywood and glass.

Then all it took was a pencil, a pair of scissors and double sided tape. I traced around  the piece of glass, cut out the paper and laid it on the board. I then took a small piece    of tape to keep the seed packages in place. I then layered the glass, ticking paper and plywood into the tray frame. I used glazing tacks to secure it. Then added some felt tabs to protect furniture. I just love how it turned out!

It's perfect as a coffee or dining table centerpiece. Just add a potted plant like I did here. Or use it on a kitchen counter or island to coral all the things... salt and pepper, fruit bowl or a stack of vintage plates.

2. Drawer Liners

Tuck the ticking paper into bathroom, kitchen, or desk drawers. It’s a quick way to make everyday spaces feel tidy and special.

3. Gift Wrap

Use it to wrap a small gift or homemade treat. Tie with twine or ribbon and add a pressed flower or tag for a perfectly farmhouse feel.

4. Framed Art Backdrop

Frame a square of the ticking pattern alone, or use it as a background behind a vintage photo, handwritten recipe card, or botanical print.

Until next time, keep it cozy!
